<\/span>From Digital Twins to Native Tokenized Assets<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

While most of the industry still relies on the <\/span>\u201cdigital twin\u201d model<\/b> (tokenizing an off-chain asset), Token City has taken a bold step toward <\/span>native issuance<\/b>\u00a0 –\u00a0 where the token <\/span>is<\/span><\/i> the asset.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe operate under a legal framework that mandates native issuance,\u201d explains Benjumea. \u201cThe asset doesn\u2019t exist elsewhere\u00a0 –\u00a0 only on-chain. This is the end state of tokenization, and we\u2019re already doing it.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This model aligns with forward-looking strategies from the <\/span>Singapore Monetary Authority<\/b> and the <\/span>Bank for International Settlements<\/b>, who see native assets as the future of capital markets infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Regulation Is Still the Elephant in the Room<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

Despite significant progress, <\/span>regulatory complexity<\/b> remains the #1 barrier to RWA adoption.<\/span><\/p>\n

Token City\u2019s journey has involved close collaboration with Spanish financial authorities, working to shape frameworks under the EU\u2019s <\/span>pilot regime<\/b> for tokenized securities. But even within Europe, Benjumea notes:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s still enormous regulatory fragmentation. Belgium\u2019s regulators, for instance, don\u2019t even consider what we\u2019re doing yet.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Cross-border compliance, buy-side vs. sell-side legal alignment, and regulatory interpretation slow adoption, particularly for startups. Yet major institutions are watching closely\u00a0 –\u00a0 because the efficiencies are too compelling to ignore.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>The Hidden Challenge: Technical and Blockchain Fragmentation<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

It\u2019s not just about law\u00a0 –\u00a0 it\u2019s also about infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n

Token City faces a familiar problem: the blockchain ecosystem is <\/span>technically fragmented<\/b>. Compatibility between different chains (EVM-based vs. non-EVM like Ripple or Dusk) creates friction in partnerships.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve had great conversations with teams, shared vision\u00a0 –\u00a0 but couldn\u2019t collaborate due to incompatible tech stacks,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> Benjumea admits.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This issue is especially acute when tokenized assets need to be cross-chain portable, composable in DeFi, or liquid in secondary markets.<\/span><\/p>\n
